An Art From One of My Favorite Authors

Since I started posting about Dates, Mates book series that I really liked way back then, I thought I might as well write about one of my favorite books written by the very talented Danielle Steel. The book was entitled Kaleidoscope and it suits well for the story.

The main thing that I learned about the story is that life is very much like a kaleidoscope. Shapes, colors, and patterns always change. You cannot guess what you will see next. And life is just the same, a good start can sometimes lead to something hurtful and even tragic. But then it can also lead to something wonderful and worthwhile.

And so, here's how the story goes...

The story started when a young, handsome American man named Sam Walker was called to join the military during World War II. During one of the camping nights he met Arthur Patterson who then became close to him same as a brother. In one of their stay in France, the two men met a very beautiful girl named Solange. Sam, the more aggressive one, immediately expressed his interest for her. And soon the two fell in love and get married. During the course of their marriage, Sam began very focused in providing for his family financially. He eventually had affairs with other women. Infidelity in their marriage resulted to Sam killing Solange and eventually committing suicide. This left his three girls Hilary, 12; Alexandra, 7; and Megan, few months old, orphans.

Since Sam had no close relatives other than Arthur, he gained the custody of the children but things didn't turned out good since Arthur's wife was not so fond of children. Having the Walkers stay in their house caused arguments between Arthur and his wife. And so Arthur, desperate to save his marriage, find ways to search for other possible relatives of Sam. He later found Sam's sister, whom Sam hadn't been contacting ever since. And turned over the custody of the three children with the promise of giving financial support. At first Arthur was able to support the three children but was later having a difficult time since the girls were growing up and so were their needs. Since the young girls can still have the chance to be adopted, they were separated from Hilary. Meanwhile, Hilary stayed at her aunt's house which later turned out to be a dangerous place for her. Her aunt was a gambler and a drunkard, and so was her husband. They abused Hilary until her teenage years. Arthur's support for her was converted into alcohol and gaming. Until Hilary found a way to escape her aunt and stealing Arthur's money form her aunt.

Hilary eventually end up in an orphanage for girls where she was molested by the other orphans. Despite this, she finished school that was offered by the orphanage. When she was too old to stay at the orphanage, she used the money that she stole to go to college and attain a degree.

Because of the bitter experiences, Hilary built a wall around her, kept everyone out, and became hardhearted. She became a strong woman who doesn't trust anyone. She learned to depend on her own. She made herself successful and promised that she will search for her sisters.

During this time, Arthur who had aged felt so much guilt because of the separation of the children hired a private investigator John Chapman to search for the girls. He first found Hilary but was deeply hurt when Hilary blamed him for causing all the tragedies in her life. And told Arthur that she was there when her dad killed her mom. The argument between the couple was because her dad was suspecting Solange was having an affair with Arthur.

Arthur and Hilary end up finding for the two other girls separately.

*I might as well like to add, the story is compose of three main chapters and the above was Hilary's chapter. Pretty long huh? :)*

On the other hand, Alexandra was adopted by novelties. And lived in England. She also had a husband whom she respected so much but was always hard and strict on her.

When she and Hilary met and the truth was revealed to her. She was surprised because all she knew was that she was born with her current parents. Then a flash back of memory can back into her and she did remember having an older sister but was not so sure if that was just part of a dream.

Then the youngest sister, Megan, was actually adopted by two loving, simple couple. Megan was an infant when they adopted her so Megan knew nothing about being an adopted child. She was already a successful doctor at her young age.

Hilary and Megan's adopted parents had some argumentation about telling Megan the truth because even though they are blood-related but there are no other things common between them now.

Okay, the story is actually very long so to some it up. The three sisters were reunited on an occasion planned and hosted by Arthur. The end.

*Sorry I'm a bit lazy, if you want to know the entire story just read the book. That would be a lot more easier. :)*
